Thanks for letting us know about the delay in filing taxes. I owe Federal taxes but I'm getting a CA state refund. What would you suggest I do?

(a) E-file only State and get the refund and e-file Fed closer to Oct 16th

(b) E-file both Fed + State now, with Fed tax withdrawal date as Apr 18th

(c) E-file both Fed + State now, with Fed tax withdrawal date as Oct 16th (even though TurboTax doesn't allow this as yet, but will hopefully do soon)

I quickly realized that TurboTax doesn't even allow (a). And it isn't allow (c) - yet. So only possible option seems to be (b). Unless I e-file but pay later by check. Is this how you're filing it too, Andre?

I am still sitting on things trying to determine which option I will go with. If you are getting a substantial amount back from California I would let TurboTax create your entire return, but then manually print out and file your state return and only efile your federal. Still waiting to see how TurboTax updates things to allow for the new filing deadlines.

I called them today and talked to a second level support specialist who confirmed that TurboTax does not adjust its software for disaster-related extensions. They only adjust it if the IRS allows all 50 states an extension (such as during Covid in 2020). The only way to e-file both Fed & CA State and yet get this extension is to select the "Check by Mail" option. So I e-filed this morning and will schedule a payment withdrawal for Oct 16th directly at https://www.irs.gov/payments.
