Andre - wishing you and the family the best through this uncertain time. I appreciate the candidness throughout the posts; imagine it is not easy.

As for chess, how are you learning to play? Been picking it up myself for the past couple of months :)

I should be asking you for advice on how I should be learning chess! Mostly just playing on chess.com, dr. Wolf, lichess, and random YouTube. Still getting destroyed.

Looks like we are in the exact same boat :P

The last way I’ve been learning is in-person with friends and having them talk through the game or give a post-game debrief.

Ironically, it helps to have a few friends who can kick my butt in the game...

Appreciate the post and wishing you the best.

No judgement at all but it still surprises me the number of people at Meta who use their work phones and computers as sole work+personal devices. Maybe it was explicitly encouraged back in the day? I could also see how the appeal could grow if you've been at the company for a long time.

Either way I'm too paranoid and like to keep my personal and work lives pretty well separated. True, the savings are tempting but don't outweigh that for me.

I wonder if NYS lets you apply during the WARN period - referring to "But according to the California Employment Development Department “WARN pay is not wages for unemployment insurance purposes and does not affect the claimant's eligibility for unemployment benefits.”

It seems like New York is similar to California. "Payments made under the New York State WARN Act (Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act—Article 25-A of the Labor Law) are not considered dismissal/severance pay. The WARN Act states that Unemployment Insurance benefits may not be denied or reduced because of payment(s) received under the WARN Act." from https://dol.ny.gov/dismissalseverance-pay-and-pensions-frequently-asked-questions

Hey Andre, how do you utilize the Backup Childcare for camps? I hadn’t figured out how to use so that’s been left on the table so far

Straight through the normal Bright Horizon's backup care website backup.brighthorizons.com and in San Francisco they had a few options including Steve & Kate's Camp. It might be region dependent, but good San Francisco coverage.
