Hey FAANG FIRE, It has officially been 10 days since I was laid off from Meta. I have received such an outpouring of kindness and support from so many people this past week. Thank you again, it means a lot to me, and has been motivating me to put more time into this newsletter.
No judgement at all but it still surprises me the number of people at Meta who use their work phones and computers as sole work+personal devices. Maybe it was explicitly encouraged back in the day? I could also see how the appeal could grow if you've been at the company for a long time.
Either way I'm too paranoid and like to keep my personal and work lives pretty well separated. True, the savings are tempting but don't outweigh that for me.
I wonder if NYS lets you apply during the WARN period - referring to "But according to the California Employment Development Department “WARN pay is not wages for unemployment insurance purposes and does not affect the claimant's eligibility for unemployment benefits.”
